Owners also frequently post rental advertisements themselves. Try to write a clear first message to the owner. If you contact an owner on social media , we recommend drafting your message in Ukrainian and translating it into Slovak with a translator or, preferably, ChatGPT.
Include the main information about yourself straight away. This can speed up the search and save time for both you and the landlord.
What should you check before signing a contract?
Ask to see the landlord’s identification and proof of ownership, find out whether utilities are included in the rent, prepare a handover report with photographs of damage (dents, stains and scratches), and clarify the conditions for returning the deposit.
Can you be refused because of pets or nationality?
Landlords may refuse tenants with pets, but under Slovak law , a landlord must not discriminate against tenants on grounds of nationality, origin, language, refugee status, gender or marital status.
